2020/2021 Program Updates

Dear SF Girls Basketball Association Families,

The Board has been working on plans to get our programs up and running for the last few months.  At this time, we are offering the following updates:

In-House and Little Dribblers Programs: remain on hold as there is still a high degree of uncertainty as to whether or not we will be granted use of the district's facilities.  We hope to engage in a conversation with district administrators regarding this issue over the next few weeks, and we will keep you posted on any developments.

Travel Program:  It does appear that there will be some options available to field teams for our travel program in grades 4-8.  While we continue exploring all available options, we are currently aware of the following:

CV League:  CV will play all of its games at a private facility -- A Giving Heart --  in the Mt. Oliver section of the city. Games will be played on all 7 days of the week.  We have the option to enter 2 teams each at the 4th and 5th grade level, and one team each in 6, 7 & 8th grades.  No practice time will be offered at this facility, so options to secure practice time for the travel teams will be required and are being explored.  The CV league is slated to start play on 12/7/2020.

South Hills Basketball League:  SHBL is not seeking a private facility to hold games at this time, and is relying on communities to provide gyms.  At this time, most districts are in the similar situation on TBD availability of school district facilities with some feeling optimistic on hosting. A SHBL league meeting is scheduled for October 18th to determine which communities are in, and which will be able to host.  Again, we are exploring options for our teams on facilities (practice and/or game).

Indoor capacity limits of 25 persons max will present some unique challenges for the season.  This limit may change, however please understand that we will likely have to keep rosters at 10 or less per team, and that it is entirely possible that not everyone will be assigned to a roster.

Travel Evaluations:  We have secured a space to conduct evaluations for grades 4 - 6 in mid to late October, details of which will be provided when registration opens. We understand that the pandemic and the various changes that have resulted from it, including those listed above, may have an effect on whether or not your daughter will participate in the travel program this year, which we certainly understand.

Travel Registration:   We will be opening Travel registration for grades 4-8 on October 1st.  Payment will not be due until teams are selected in late October.  Look for an e-mail with more details on Travel registration within the next week.

As more information around Travel and other programs become available, we will communicate as quickly as possible.   We appreciate your patience and your on-going support of the association and the girls basketball programs.

Sincerely,
SF Girls Basketball Association Board
