IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE 2020-2021 IN-HOUSE SEASON: With the context of the current Covid-19 pandemic and significant impacts that have surrounded many activities and gatherings, the SFGBA has been working to identify options to afford opportunities for In-House Basketball play for the upcoming season, including working out what our facilities situation will be with the SF School District gyms that we have historically been able to utilize for our programs. Additionally, we have been formulating our return to play protocols, aligned to CDC and local health department policy guidelines. We are excited to announce our plan to begin play in January.
The In-House basketball program provides a fun, and encouraging environment for girls to continue to learn the game of basketball. The program is open to girls who are South Fayette residents in grades 3rd through 6th. For the 2020-2021 season, registration will be open from November 13th - December 4th, with the season planned to run from January through late February or early March. All girls will be placed on teams and each participant receives a reversible game jersey.
Participants are divided into a 3rd/4th grade league and a 5th/6th grade league. For 3rd-4th grade, the format is 3on3 half court - with the focus on continued skill development and to give players a better opportunity to be actively engaged in game play. For 5th-6th grade, games are 5on5 full court.
Cost will be $85.
Some changes that families can expect for the upcoming season due to COVID-19:
- Practices and games will be held primarily on weekends (two teams will share the gym for separate 45 minute practices immediately followed by a game played between the two teams)
- Spectator restrictions - We must follow all state/local guidelines for indoor events and school policies for use of their gym space. There will be spectator restrictions and the possibility of no spectators allowed at games depending on current conditions.
- Coaches will wear masks at all times for practices and games and will minimize close contact with players and other teams while entering and exiting gyms.
- Coaches and/or assistant coaches will officiate all games to minimize contact and exposure with other individuals (no outside officials)
